A Nigerian Army commander has urged soldiers to demonstrate greater commitment, discipline and professionalism in the discharge of their duties, stressing that improved remuneration should be matched with increased dedication to service.
The commander made the appeal while addressing personnel, emphasising that the recent salary increase for military personnel should inspire troops to perform their responsibilities with renewed determination.
He noted that better pay comes with greater expectations, urging soldiers to remain focused on their constitutional responsibilities, particularly the protection of lives and property and the defence of Nigeria’s territorial integrity.
The commander also stressed the importance of discipline, loyalty and teamwork in military operations, reminding personnel that their conduct directly affects public confidence in the armed forces.
He encouraged the troops to maintain high professional standards and avoid actions capable of undermining the reputation of the Nigerian Army.
According to him, soldiers must demonstrate through their daily conduct that the government’s investment in their welfare is justified by their commitment to national security.
He further urged personnel to remain vigilant and prepared to confront security threats, while carrying out their assignments in accordance with military rules and regulations.
The appeal comes as Nigeria continues to grapple with security challenges in different parts of the country, placing significant demands on military personnel and other security agencies.
The Federal Government has repeatedly highlighted the importance of improving the welfare of security personnel as part of efforts to strengthen morale and operational effectiveness.
The commander’s message underscores the expectation that improved welfare should go hand in hand with discipline, accountability and effective service to the nation.
