The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has suspended one of its officers, Deputy Superintendent of Corps Onoja Babayo Samuel, following an alleged shooting incident at Kubwa Market in Abuja.
The incident, which occurred on October 25, 2026, reportedly involved a confrontation between the officer and traders at the market, during which he allegedly fired several shots into the air.
Following his arrest by the Federal Capital Territory Police Command, the NSCDC ordered the officer’s immediate suspension and an internal disciplinary trial to establish his level of responsibility in the incident.
The corps described the alleged conduct as a serious breach of its rules of engagement and standard operating procedures.
The Commandant-General of the NSCDC, Ahmed Abubakar Audi, directed the suspension and the commencement of disciplinary proceedings against the officer.
The development followed reports that Samuel had gone to the market armed with a pistol after allegedly receiving information that some traders had assaulted his wife.
Police investigations reportedly led to the recovery of a CZ pistol and 17 rounds of live 9mm ammunition from the officer during his arrest.
The NSCDC said the disciplinary process would determine the appropriate action to be taken, stressing the importance of professionalism and compliance with established operational guidelines.
The incident has renewed attention on the conduct of security personnel and the need for restraint in handling disputes involving members of the public.
