President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has arrived in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, to perform Umrah, the lesser pilgrimage in Islam, as he seeks divine guidance and blessings for Nigeria.

The President arrived at King Abdulaziz International Airport on Thursday evening, October 29, 2026, where he was received by Nigeria’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Yakubu Gambo, and the Saudi Head of Royal Protocol, Ahmad bin Thafir.

Tinubu’s visit is expected to provide an opportunity for spiritual reflection, devotion and prayers for Nigeria’s peace, unity, stability and continued development.

According to the Presidency, the President is expected to return to Nigeria next week after completing the religious exercise in Makkah, one of Islam’s holiest cities.

Before departing Abuja on Thursday afternoon, Tinubu commissioned five newly acquired Nigerian Air Force helicopters intended to strengthen military operations against terrorism and other security threats.

The aircraft comprise two Airbus H-125 helicopters and three Agusta 109 Trekker helicopters. He also inaugurated the newly constructed Presidential Air Fleet Hangar at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.

The trip follows an announcement by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who explained that the pilgrimage would allow Tinubu to seek divine guidance and blessings for Nigeria and its people.

The visit comes as the country continues to confront economic pressures and security challenges, placing renewed attention on the administration’s efforts to improve national stability and development.

Tinubu has previously travelled to Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah, including a visit in November 2023, several months after assuming office as Nigeria’s President.

As the President undertakes the pilgrimage, Nigerians will be watching for his return and the administration’s next steps in addressing the country’s pressing challenges.

What is your reaction to President Tinubu’s trip to Saudi Arabia? Do you believe prayers and stronger government action must go hand in hand to address Nigeria’s challenges?
