Mujidat Folasade Tinubu-Ojo, daughter of President Bola Tinubu and Iyaloja-General of Nigeria, has urged Nigerians not to vote for former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar or former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi in the 2027 presidential election.

Tinubu-Ojo argued that electing either opposition figure could reverse the progress she believes has been recorded under her father’s administration.

She made the remarks on Thursday in Abuja during the inauguration of the Iyaloja General Movement (IGM) for Renewed Hope Initiatives, a political support group established to mobilise backing for President Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to her, the movement has established structures across the country’s 36 states, local government areas and wards, with the aim of sensitising voters ahead of the next general election.

‘The Policies Are Painful, but the Results Will Justify Them’

Defending the President’s economic policies, Tinubu-Ojo acknowledged that many Nigerians were experiencing hardship but maintained that the situation would improve with time.

She compared the country’s current economic challenges to the labour pains of a pregnant woman, arguing that the difficulties being experienced now could eventually produce positive results.

She said the movement would educate market leaders and their communities about the direction they should take when deciding who to support in the next election.

Her comments reflect the position of supporters of the Tinubu administration, who argue that the government’s economic reforms require time before their expected benefits can be fully felt by citizens.

However, the administration’s policies, including the removal of the petrol subsidy and changes to foreign exchange management, have continued to generate debate amid concerns over living costs and economic hardship.

Tinubu’s Supporters Begin Mobilisation for 2027

The launch of the movement comes as political parties and their supporters intensify preparations for the 2027 presidential election.

President Tinubu is seeking another term in office, while Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi are among the prominent opposition figures seeking to challenge the APC.

Atiku, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), and Obi, who is associated with the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), have both criticised aspects of the current administration and presented themselves as alternatives for Nigerians seeking political change.

Tinubu-Ojo’s remarks add to the growing exchange of political arguments ahead of the election, with supporters of the ruling party defending the government’s record while opposition figures question its handling of the economy and other national challenges.

Nigerians Face a Choice Ahead of the Election

With the 2027 election approaching, economic performance, security, employment and the cost of living are expected to remain central issues in the campaign.

While Tinubu-Ojo believes another administration led by Atiku or Obi could take Nigeria backwards, the ultimate decision will rest with eligible voters.

The competing claims from political camps underline the importance of assessing candidates’ records, policy proposals and plans for addressing the country’s challenges before casting a ballot.
