Spanish football has been thrown into mourning following the death of CD Tenerife striker Jesús de Miguel Alameda, who died at the age of 30 after suffering a fatal injury in a collision with an opposing goalkeeper during a league match.
The club confirmed his death on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, expressing deep sorrow over the loss of the forward and extending condolences to his grieving family, friends, teammates and supporters.
The tragic incident occurred on Monday during Tenerife’s Spanish second-division encounter against FC Andorra at the Heliodoro Rodríguez López Stadium.
De Miguel was chasing a long ball towards the closing stages of the match when Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono rushed out of his goal to challenge for possession. The two players collided heavily, leaving the Tenerife striker unconscious on the pitch.
Players from both teams immediately called for medical assistance as the severity of the incident became apparent. Medical personnel treated the striker before he was rushed to hospital by ambulance.
Reports indicated that De Miguel suffered cardiac arrest during the emergency transfer. Medical personnel managed to restore his pulse, but he remained unconscious and was admitted to the intensive care unit.
Tenerife subsequently announced that his neurological condition had deteriorated before confirming his death the following morning.
The collision also brought the match to an abrupt end. With both teams level at 2-2, the referee abandoned the encounter during stoppage time. Owono was shown a straight red card following the incident.
The tragedy has prompted an outpouring of tributes from football clubs, players and officials across Spain and beyond. FC Andorra also expressed condolences to De Miguel’s family, teammates and Tenerife.
The Spanish football federation announced the postponement of several scheduled cup matches as a mark of respect for the deceased player.
Meanwhile, Spanish police have opened an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident, including possible involuntary manslaughter.
De Miguel joined Tenerife in 2025 and helped the club secure promotion to Spain’s second division. His death has left the football community grieving over the loss of a player whose career was cut short by a devastating on-field accident.
