The Plateau State Government has condemned fresh attacks in parts of the state that left residents dead and others injured, urging communities affected by the violence to reject any attempt at retaliation.
The government said the latest incidents occurred in parts of Mangu Local Government Area on Saturday, September 12, 2026, followed by another attack at Dungus Junction in Kuru, Jos South Local Government Area, the following day.
In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Joyce Lohya Ramnap, the state government described the incidents as deeply disturbing, particularly as authorities and security agencies have been working with traditional rulers, community leaders and other stakeholders to strengthen peace and security across Plateau.
The government appealed to residents in affected communities to remain vigilant and provide security agencies with credible information that could help prevent further attacks and lead to the arrest of those responsible.
It also specifically warned residents against launching reprisal attacks, stressing that retaliation could worsen the security situation and undermine ongoing peace-building efforts.
According to the government, security agencies have been deployed to the affected communities in Mangu and Kuru following the latest incidents.
The administration of Governor Caleb Mutfwang also assured residents that the protection of lives and property remains a major priority.
The government said it would continue working with traditional institutions, community leaders and security agencies to strengthen dialogue, improve intelligence sharing and prevent further escalation of violence.
It commiserated with families who lost loved ones in the attacks and wished those injured a speedy recovery.
The latest violence comes amid renewed security concerns in Plateau, with reports indicating that several people were killed in separate attacks across parts of the state.
Authorities are expected to intensify security operations in the affected areas while efforts continue to prevent further violence and possible reprisal attacks.
