The defection of former Agege Local Government Chairman, Ganiyu Kola Egunjobi, has continued to generate political reactions in Lagos ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The Director-General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign in Agege said Egunjobi’s decision to leave the party would not weaken the APC’s chances in the constituency.
Instead, the campaign DG claimed the development could strengthen the party’s support base and increase the number of votes the APC records in Agege during the 2027 elections.
Egunjobi’s defection is coming at a time when political parties are intensifying efforts to consolidate their structures and attract influential figures ahead of the next general elections.
The former council chairman’s political network and experience in Agege have made his departure a notable development within the local political landscape.
However, the APC campaign leadership maintained that the party remains firmly positioned in the area, expressing confidence that its existing structure and support among voters would translate into electoral gains.
The development is expected to add another layer to the political contest in Agege as parties begin to position themselves for the 2027 polls.
