The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has again declared former Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Pension Reforms, Abdulrasheed Maina, wanted over an alleged case of receiving stolen property.

The anti-graft agency announced the development in a wanted notice issued on Wednesday and signed by its Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale.

According to the notice, Maina, 61, is an indigene of Biu, Borno State. The EFCC urged members of the public with information about his whereabouts to contact any of its offices, the nearest police station or other security agencies.

The commission listed its offices in Abuja, Lagos, Ibadan, Uyo, Sokoto, Maiduguri, Benin, Makurdi, Kaduna, Ilorin, Enugu, Kano, Gombe and Port Harcourt as points where information could be provided.

Maina’s Previous EFCC Case

Maina has previously faced prosecution over allegations linked to pension funds.

The EFCC first declared him wanted in 2015 over a separate case involving alleged procurement fraud, stealing and money laundering connected to the pension biometric project. He was later arrested in Niger Republic in 2019 and returned to Nigeria to face trial.

A Federal High Court in Abuja subsequently convicted Maina on money laundering-related charges and sentenced him to eight years in prison. He later appealed the conviction.

The Nigerian Correctional Service has also disclosed that Maina was released from custody in February 2025 after serving part of his sentence, citing applicable laws and his conduct while in custody.

EFCC Gives Few Details on Fresh Allegation

In its latest notice, the EFCC identified the alleged offence simply as “Receiving Stolen Properties.”

However, the commission did not disclose further details about the property allegedly involved, when the alleged offence occurred or whether the new declaration is directly connected to Maina’s previous pension-related case.

The latest wanted declaration therefore represents a new development in Maina’s long-running legal troubles, while details of the fresh allegation remain limited.
