The death toll from a deadly attack on a remote village in Taraba State, north-eastern Nigeria, has risen to at least 48, according to the police.
The attack occurred on Friday when unidentified gunmen riding motorcycles invaded Binnari village, looting shops and setting houses ablaze, leaving residents devastated.
Police authorities initially reported 10 fatalities following the assault. However, subsequent information revealed that the number of victims had increased significantly, with at least 48 people confirmed dead.
The incident has renewed concerns over the persistent insecurity affecting communities in parts of northern and north-eastern Nigeria, where armed attacks have continued to threaten lives, property and livelihoods.
Residents of affected communities are often left struggling to recover from such violence, particularly when homes and businesses are destroyed.
The latest attack adds to growing calls for stronger security measures to protect rural communities and prevent further loss of life.
