Residents of several communities in Lagos State have expressed frustration over persistent power outages, saying the prolonged blackout has disrupted daily activities, affected businesses and increased household expenses.

The residents lamented that the lack of electricity had forced many households and business owners to depend on alternative sources of power, including petrol generators, despite the rising cost of fuel and maintenance.

For small business operators, the situation has reportedly created additional financial pressure, particularly for those whose activities depend heavily on a steady electricity supply.

Businesses Count Their Losses

Some business owners said the outages had affected their ability to provide services efficiently, with operators of barbing salons, restaurants, refrigeration businesses and other small enterprises facing difficulties maintaining normal operations.

Those who rely on generators said the additional cost of fuel was eating into their profits, leaving them with little choice but to increase prices or reduce their operating hours.

Residents also expressed concern about the effect of the blackout on domestic activities, including food preservation, household chores and children’s studies.

Residents Seek Urgent Intervention

The affected residents called on the relevant electricity distribution authorities to address the situation and provide a more reliable power supply.

They urged the authorities to communicate clearly about the cause of the outages and the expected timeline for restoring electricity, arguing that prolonged disruptions without adequate information had heightened their frustration.

Reliable electricity remains a major concern for households and businesses across Nigeria, where power supply challenges frequently force consumers to spend additional money on alternative energy sources.

The residents said they hoped for a lasting solution that would restore normal activities and reduce the financial burden associated with prolonged blackouts.
