President Bola Tinubu has fulfilled his financial reward pledge to Nigeria’s Super Falcons, with each player receiving the naira equivalent of $100,000 following the team’s victory at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The National Sports Commission (NSC) confirmed that the payments had been made directly into the players’ accounts, bringing an end to the wait for the cash reward promised after Nigeria secured its record-extending 10th continental title.
At an exchange value of approximately ₦1,400 to the dollar, the $100,000 reward amounts to about ₦140 million per player.
Coaches and other team officials also received the naira equivalent of $50,000 each in recognition of their contributions to the team’s success.
The Super Falcons staged a remarkable comeback in the final against hosts Morocco in July 2025, recovering from a two-goal deficit to win 3–2 and reclaim the African crown.
Following the triumph, Tinubu announced a series of rewards for the players, including cash payments, national honours and three-bedroom apartments in the Renewed Hope Estate in Abuja.
The team members were subsequently conferred with the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) national honour, while the Federal Government also fulfilled its housing pledge.
The latest payment underscores the government’s commitment to rewarding sporting excellence and recognising the achievements of Nigerian athletes on the international stage.
Nigeria’s Super Falcons remain Africa’s most successful women’s national team, and their latest continental triumph further strengthened their standing in the women’s game.
The fulfilment of the pledge is also expected to encourage athletes and sports administrators to continue pursuing excellence while ensuring that promises made to national teams are honoured.
