Troops of the Nigerian Army have reportedly killed several suspected bandits and rescued a civilian after repelling an attack along the Sokoto–Gusau highway in Zamfara State.
The incident occurred at about 11:15 am on Sunday, November 1, 2026, around Kuka Mairaho village along the Sokoto–Gusau Main Supply Route.
Security sources disclosed that soldiers stationed at the Forward Operating Bases in Fangaltama and Gidan Kano were alerted to gunshots heard around the community.
Following the alert, the troops swiftly mobilised to the scene and engaged the suspected bandits in a gun battle.
Several of the attackers were reportedly killed during the confrontation, while others fled the area following the military’s response.
After repelling the attack, the soldiers conducted a search of the surrounding area, leading to the rescue of a civilian.
The rescued individual was subsequently taken into military custody for further action, according to the security report.
The operation was reported by security analyst and counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama in a post shared on his X account.
Meanwhile, troops have continued security operations along the Sokoto–Gusau highway and in neighbouring communities to deter further attacks and improve safety along the route.
The latest operation comes amid ongoing security challenges in parts of north-western Nigeria, where armed groups have continued to threaten travellers and rural communities.
