Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has approved the creation of a new district and appointed traditional rulers as part of efforts to strengthen traditional institutions and improve grassroots administration.

The new Buma District was carved out of Dolekaina District in Dandi Local Government Area and comprises eight village areas.

The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Garba Umar Dutsinmari, announced the development in a statement issued in Birnin Kebbi.

According to the statement, Alhaji Salisu Hakimi has been appointed as the district head of Buma District.

The eight village areas under the new district are Tunga Rafi, Gamana, Tudunsan, Gillare, Bump Town, Goraro, Bukki and Alfarma Kwara.

Governor Idris also approved the appointment of Nasiru Umar Maizabo as the village head of Marafan Garin Haruna in Tiggi District, Augie Local Government Area.

Dutsinmari said the decisions were taken in accordance with the Kebbi State Local Government Law 2008, particularly Section 10, Subsections (A) and (B), which provide for the creation of districts and the appointment of district heads.

He urged the newly appointed traditional leaders to discharge their duties with honesty, discipline, transparency and dedication, stressing the importance of responsible leadership at the community level.

The commissioner also assured them of the state government’s support as they assume their traditional responsibilities.

The development is expected to strengthen local traditional structures and improve administration across the affected communities.
