Five people, including four students of the Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUT Minna), have died in a fatal road accident involving a vehicle attached to Niger State Governor Mohammed Bago’s convoy.
The crash occurred on Monday at Gidan Mangoro, along the Minna–Bida road, when a Toyota Hilux conveying the Director-General of the Government House, Dauda Chikuba, collided head-on with a vehicle carrying the students.
Four of the students and the driver of the government vehicle reportedly died at the scene, while Chikuba sustained injuries and was rushed to hospital for treatment.
The accident happened as the governor’s entourage was returning to Minna after a condolence visit to the Etsu Nupe and Chairman of the Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, Yahaya Abubakar, following the death of Sagi Nupe, Aisha.
The students’ vehicle was travelling towards Bida when the collision occurred.
Eyewitnesses Raise Questions Over Crash
An eyewitness described the incident as a head-on collision and alleged that the governor’s convoy was travelling at high speed at the time of the accident.
However, the circumstances that led to the crash have not been officially established, and the allegation concerning the convoy’s speed remains unconfirmed.
The collision has raised concerns over road safety and the need for a thorough investigation to determine what happened.

The Niger State Police Command has confirmed the accident and commenced an investigation into its circumstances.
The command’s spokesperson, Wasiu Abiodun, said the incident was being investigated but did not disclose the identities of those who died.
