Olujonwo Obasanjo, son of former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, has declared support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027 after joining a political group promoting the President’s continued stay in office.

Olujonwo formally aligned with the Tinubu Movement for Sustainable Governance Foundation, popularly known as the “Tinubu Must Stay” movement, at a gathering in Abuja.

He said his decision was informed by his longstanding membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and his belief that the current administration’s policies should be sustained.

“I have been in the APC since 2014. I was there when my father hosted the late President Muhammadu Buhari and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to form the movement. I am not new to the party,” he said.

Olujonwo currently serves as president of the Buhari Youth Organisation and Project One Nigeria, as well as Senior Special Assistant to the Ogun State Governor on Housing.

He argued that some of the administration’s policies and achievements were not being adequately communicated to Nigerians, claiming that misinformation had contributed to negative perceptions of the government.

He pointed to developments in education, infrastructure and access to student loans as areas he believes deserve greater public attention.

The group’s leadership welcomed his decision, saying his background and experience could help promote discussions about the government’s economic reforms and policy direction.

Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency and a leader of the movement, drew comparisons between reforms undertaken during Olusegun Obasanjo’s presidency and those being pursued by Tinubu.

He cited telecommunications liberalisation and banking reforms under the elder Obasanjo as examples of policies whose effects extended beyond their initial implementation.

Olujonwo’s declaration comes as political alignments begin to take shape ahead of the 2027 general election, with Tinubu expected to seek another term and opposition figures, including Peter Obi and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, also featuring in discussions about the presidential contest.

His position, however, should not be taken as representing the political views of his father, whose own opinions and political interventions remain separate.
