President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated six executive directors for the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), seeking Senate confirmation for their appointments as part of efforts to strengthen the agency’s leadership and regulatory capacity.
The nominations, announced on Friday, 30 October 2026, comprise three serving directors proposed for another term and three new nominees. If confirmed, all six will serve five-year terms.
The President has urged the Senate to consider the nominations promptly to ensure continuity in the authority’s operations and strengthen its oversight of Nigeria’s midstream and downstream petroleum sectors.
Three Directors Nominated for Reappointment
The three serving officials nominated for another term are:
- Abiodun Adeniji — Executive Director, Finance and Accounts.
- Ogbugo Kalu Ukoha — Executive Director, Distribution Systems, Storage and Retailing Infrastructure.
- Dr Mustapha Lamorde — Executive Director, Health, Safety, Environment and Community.
Their proposed reappointments would retain experienced personnel in key financial, infrastructure and safety positions within the regulatory authority.
Meet the Three New Nominees
Tinubu has also nominated three individuals for executive director positions.
They are:
- Mobolaji Tajudeen Musa — Executive Director, Hydrocarbon Processing Plants, Installations and Transportation Infrastructure.
- Ogechukwu Modie — Executive Director, Economic Regulations and Strategic Planning.
- Said Abutalib — Executive Director, Corporate Services and Administration.
Their nominations cover critical areas of petroleum infrastructure, economic regulation, strategic planning and corporate administration.
The Senate’s confirmation process will determine whether the nominees formally assume their respective positions.
Tinubu Approves Jumoke Gafar’s Appointment
In a related development, the President has approved the appointment of Jumoke Gafar as Secretary to the NMDPRA Board and Authority, as well as Legal Adviser.
Her appointment remains subject to the completion of the statutory procedures stipulated under Section 46 of the Petroleum Industry Act.
The latest nominations follow Tinubu’s appointment of Rabiu Abdullahi Umar as chief executive of the NMDPRA in April 2026.
The changes are expected to shape the authority’s leadership structure as it continues overseeing regulatory activities across Nigeria’s midstream and downstream petroleum industry.
